Day 5: Love from a distance
Hi. It’s Monday, April 13, and we’re down to five days left of our countdown.

On Friday, I asked you if you’d seen something during this time that made you smile.
Here’s Margaret G.:
On my walk home from picking up a no-contact food box from my local butcher I saw this sign "We love you from a distance" one block down from me. I've also been taking pictures of trees in bloom from my window/on my rare essential outings.
Ashira M.:
It was pouring rain here in Cambridge this week, and our apartment looks out on a small, now-abandoned parking lot for an auxiliary Harvard building. While I was sitting inside, grumpy that I couldn't take my daily walk, a mom and her two kids who live nearby walked into the parking lot and starting splashing the puddles. It felt like a scene out of children's book: small kids in rubber rainboots, laughing and splashing in the rain, looking as happy as I've seen anyone recently. It was a real joy to watch.
Meghann B.:
Our cat Pip had extreme separation anxiety. He used to wail outside the door when we left for work. I could hear his cry almost all the way to the garage. Well, now we are lucky enough to work from home and he is SO HAPPY. We are greeted every morning with a downward-facing dog pose and then what I like to call the "Ariel the Mermaid" stretch (if her singing moment on the rock were accompanied by two grey kitten feet instead of fish tail). His striped tail curls right up into a question mark. He gives us a good reminder to do our stretches and to be calm together....unless, of course, he should have a case of the zoomies.
Niki. O.:
I subscribe to Kara Cutruzzula's Brass Ring newsletter and she sent out a link to the worldwide cast of Carole King's Beautiful singing "You've Got a Friend" on Zoom to raise money for the Actor's Fund. The cast and orchestra played and sang while playing with stuffed animals or hanging out with family. I sobbed, but they were mostly happy tears. It's good to know (and remember right now) that you've got a friend.
Alex N.:
The other day I was walking with my partner in Brooklyn, and we were passing by the tennis courts in McCarren park, which are closed. We always try to walk by them because they are very dear to him. As we were approaching them, we noticed a man sitting on his knees, pointing out a pidgeon to his small dachshund. The dachshund was so excited that he kept poking his owner with his paw. And his owner kept smiling and looking at the dog looking at the pidgeon. It was a small moment but it was really tender and it made my day.
Miti D.:
Just got the news that my cousin had a baby girl! This baby has been in this world only for a few hours and she is already the best thing that has happened to our family in the last few weeks!

This video from one of the Bon Appetit camera guys. I cannot stop giggling even though I've watched it at least 15 times.
